EPI ® Technique
At our EL ÁNGEL PHYSICAL THERAPY CENTER we are specialists in ultrasound-guided Invasive Physiotherapy.
We are leaders in Estepona in the use of this invasive treatment.
Arguably our most effective in cases of acute and chronic pain.
The results are spectacular both at the musculoskeletal level and at the NS level.
We have been fortunate to be able to learn from none other than the best in Invasive Physiotherapy, and that is why we want to convey to our patients the great benefits we achieve from this technique.
What is EPI?
Percutaneous Intratisular Electrolysis (EPI) is an invasive physiotherapy technique. This technique consists of the ultrasound-guided application of a galvanic current through an acupuncture needle, which acts as a cathode or negative electrode, producing an electrochemical reaction in the degenerated region of the tendon. EPI produces an ablation effect or electrolytic separation of certain ions that make up the degenerated tendon, triggering the activation of repair mechanisms. This procedure produces a localized inflammatory process allowing phagocytosis and repair of the affected soft tissue (tendon, ligament, muscle, etc.).
What benefits does it provide compared to other treatments?
It is a local treatment at the site of the injury. With the help of ultrasound, it is applied directly to the altered and/or degenerated tissue.
It manages to repair the affected tissue , EPI® is capable of starting a new proliferation process of collagen tissue that is destructured in these processes.
The modifications in the structure and mechanobiological behavior of the soft tissue are immediate and in real time.
The effectiveness is high (around 80%) compared to conventional physiotherapy treatments (ultrasound, laser, Cyriax technique, diacutaneous fibrolysis, shock waves, etc.) or medical treatments (drugs, infiltrations or surgery).
The relapse rate is low.
